The number 22 has a very captivating story associated with it, that not many people are aware of. I find that it is very appropriate in describing what the Crucible of Hyperion is all about.
On the Periodic Table of Elements, titanium occupies the twenty second place
among the elements.
It was a beautifully delivered tip of the hat from
Dmitri Mendeleev, a man familiar with the Greek Mysteries, and a very noble man at heart.
Titanium takes its name from the word titan.
The particular
Titan being Prometheus, wisest and most noble of all the beings
between earth and sky.
He gave humans fire,
because we had nothing else.
No animal strength or teeth or claws.
Bereft of any advantage, we had a very bleak future to look forward to.....
We were helpless, and Prometheus chose to save us
nonetheless.
He gave us Fire. He gave us the ability to scratch out a destiny of our own, and be liberated from the complete control of the Gods..
His fate sealed, he surrendered to the furry of Zeus, knowing he had made the right choice.
Chained to a cliff, an eagle would eat his liver, only for it to be renewed. A terrible price did Prometheus pay.
Never caving in to Zeus's tyranny, Prometheus endured his torture without
regret.
Thus, Titanium was named to honor the strongest of the elements, to
remind us of the most powerful reason for our being.
This is the standard that every human must aspire to equal.
This is
the power of giving people the tools to fight tyrants.
